About Val d'Isere:
http://www.valdisere.com/en/
A LEGENDARY SKI AREA IN A DREAM SETTING THAT'S ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE
The Val d’Isère ski area is not only legendary because of its exceptional setting but also because it is a place where ski legends are made. At the winter Olympics in 1968 for example, the resort watched its first stars emerge, the Goitschel sisters and Jean-Claude Killy who had grown up on these pistes. The career of the latter made such an impression on everyone that the resort was named the Espace Killy after him... 300kms of pistes, 1900m of vertical - you could claim “that says it all” but the Espace Killy is more than that. Here, from 28 November to 1 May, a huge variety of talent and desire is revealed and nurtured on more than 150 pistes and endless off-piste… With two glaciers, two snow parks, 10,000 hectares (1 hectare = 10,000 square meters) of pure exhilaration in a ski area that hosted the Olympic Games and the World Championships, you are skiing on legendary snow. Val d’Isère offers free beginner runs, a pedestrian pass for admiring the panoramic views from the peaks as well as cross country skiing and snowshoeing tracks up the mountain for those looking to get back to nature. Val d'Isère is the whole package: a real town surrounded by the kind of tall jagged peaks, endless vertical and superior terrain that can only be found in the Alps. The ski area is linked with Tignes, creating “L’Espace Killy,” with 186 miles of marked runs for every level of skier, as well as ample off-piste and untracked powder for the expert.
With a Val d’Isere ski vacation discover "The authentic skiers' village". It manages incredible harmony between modern tourism, local architecture and being part of one of the largest ski areas in France. As host to some events of the '92 Winter Games, more polish was added to an already magnificent gem. L' Espace Killy is so immense it seems the only way to see it all is from the space shuttle! This little village reaches to a dizzying height of 3,700 meters of light powder covered snowfields! If your paradise is perfectly groomed and a little gentler, the Solaise sector has the nicest beginner and intermediate slopes. The Bellavarde sector has superb access including the Funival, an underground express through the rock, to the top of Rocher de Bellevarde, with lots more great runs The Col de Iseran area provides access to the Glacier de Pissaillas. The entire region of Val d' Isere has some of the most breathtaking vistas and best skiing imaginable.
In the heart of the Savoie region in southwest France, Val d’Isère throws open its doors to the snow-laden Espace Killy ski area. Val d’Isère is an internationally renowned resort that has maintained its charm and authenticity and from November to May, the magic of winter envelops this genuine Alpine village that sits at an altitude of 1850 meters. Val d’Isère blends the authentic architecture of a real Alpine village with the facilities and comfort of a big resort. The baroque church, traditional houses, murmurs of the Isère river and the surrounding environment have really inspired local architects. Luxury hotels, holiday residences, chalets built from stone and wood, altogether more contemporary, the variety is elegant; traditional and modern at the same time. With two thirds of its area situated at the heart of the Vanoise National Park, Val d’Isère follows the rhythm of the seasons and the natural environment. Socially responsible and respectful of the environment, the resort is especially committed to protecting the eagles and preserving the biodiversity of the planet.
